Sarasota is known for its beautiful shores and sparkling waters, and maybe you are known for being best friends with your dog! Luckily, there are several wonderful and unique outdoor spaces in Sarasota that you can enjoy alongside your pup. Unfortunately, there are only one beach in Sarasota that explicitly allows dogs (Brohard Beach and Dog Park, described below), but there are several other outdoor areas that your dog will equally enjoy.
Brohard Beach and Dog Park
As stated above, Brohard beach is the only beach in Sarasota that definitively allows and encourages dogs on their premises. Brohard Beach is located on Harbor Drive in South Venice, Sarasota County. The beach is equipped with free doggy bags, showers, and water fountains for both humans and dogs! The dog park and beach is open from am to dusk daily and is maintained by Sarasota County.

Lakeview Park

Although not a beach, Lakeview park is still a place of natural beauty that you and your dog can enjoy! Lakeview Park has restrooms and picnic tables, as well as a designated dog park. Lakeview park also has a canoe/kayak launch and disc golf. This space can meet all of your fun outdoor needs both with your dog and with your family and friends.

Myakka River State Park may be one of the most beautiful and unique spaces you can find within Sarasota. Pets on leashes are allowed in Myakka State Park and your dog is sure to love running or walking along the river banks. The Myakka River is Florida’s first state-named “wild and scenic river” which flows through over 50 miles of undisturbed ecosystems. As you walk along the Myakka River in Myakka State park, you will find immense bending palm trees and hear the cries of osprey, making for an unforgettable walk with your pup.
